The challenge was to make the topics easy to understand, the case studies easy to compare side-by-side, and offer clear definitions of levels of density.

The design team understood the case studies as “game cards,” holding data and observational information, and developed sorting and comparison as the prime function of the website.

This website builds upon 10 years of research, started by the late professor emeritus Tunney Lee from the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning.
