This newly renovated 19-story building houses Microsoft’s New England Research and Development branch. Overlooking the Charles River, and at the intersection of Longfellow Bridge and Memorial Drive, the location offers striking views of the Boston skyline.

The design team approached the challenge holistically by coordinating materials and geometry with graphic design.

The graphics program included wall graphics for all 19 levels, ADA signage, custom art installations, and one large illuminated Microsoft Logo on the second floor, visible to ongoing traffic over Longfellow Bridge and pedestrians across the river.

One charming addition to the program was including icons, called “quirks,” referencing pop culture, office life, and science fiction.

The team composed the graphics as an extension of the architecture and bent lines, shapes, and colors from wall surfaces to floor patterns to create a dynamic visual effect.
